Walking has this astounding, quiet way of slowing us down, helping us notice what’s going on around us and within us. It’s an embodied way of processing and releasing stress, anxiety, worries, fears, confusion, pain, anger, and grief. Somehow, when we’re moving, we find we come to stillness within – a stillness that can open us to listen for God and ourselves.
For some people, movement makes speaking about what’s on their hearts and minds a bit easier. Sitting face-to-face with someone in person or virtually might be difficult, but moving together at the same speed can facilitate conversation. If this sounds like you, maybe a Walk & Talk session is the way to go!
As in seated spiritual direction sessions, a Walk & Talk session typically includes sharing and listening as well as times of silence. The sessions do not have a set agenda beyond what you would like to discuss. It’s simply spiritual direction on the go!
How fast will we walk? At a pace comfortable for both of us. If mobility is a concern, know that canes, walkers, and wheelchairs are welcome! We will work together to make sure accessibility is accounted for beforehand.
How far will we walk? We will discuss the route before setting out and will adapt as necessary once we’re underway. This is not a race or a trek, but an opportunity for moving that can assist sharing, listening, and noticing.
Before setting up the Walk & Talk, there is an initial, free virtual consultation in which we each have time to ask questions and assess if the partnership and/or Walk & Talk format will be a good fit.
