Ripe

It takes time
for the oblate berries
to reach their
matte
indigo hue,
basking in the June sun.

They’re so tempting though
when they’re almost there
having warmed from pale green
to bright, maroon-ish purple.

Sure,
they’ll darken more
in the berry bowl
but they will always be
puckeringly tart.

If only I have the
experience,
foresight,
will,
patience,
to hold on –
one…
day…
more…

Oh!
How sweet the taste!
